Why You Can't Bring Gas on a Plane
Gas canisters and liquid fuel are classified as hazardous materials and are not permitted on aircraft — in checked luggage or carry-on. This means every camper flying into Iceland needs to source their fuel locally. We've got you covered.

Screw-On Gas Canisters (Isobutane/Propane Mix)
Our screw-on canisters use a 70/30 isobutane/propane mix — the best ratio for cold-weather performance, rated down to -15°C. The self-sealing safety valve means you can detach the canister from your stove mid-use without losing gas. These are for sale — you don't need to return them.

Many travellers fly into Keflavik Airport late at night or in the early hours of the morning. We know you want to get your gear sorted and hit the road — so we've made it easy.
Our 24/7 self-service pickup room at our Reykjavik office allows you to collect pre-ordered gas canisters and camping equipment at any time of day or night, even when our team isn't on site. No waiting, no delays — your gear is ready when you are.
How it works:
- Place your order online in advance at iceland-camping-equipment.com
- Add a note at checkout if you're collecting outside normal hours
- We'll prepare your order and leave it ready in the 24/7 room
- Collect at your convenience — day or night
Please note: Gas canisters cannot be ordered online for shipping — they must be collected in person at our office due to transport regulations. You can however reserve your gas online and pay on collection, or add a note to your existing gear rental order.
Important: Gas Canister Returns & Recycling
- Gas canisters are for sale — you do not need to return them
- If you'd like us to recycle your empty canisters, you're welcome to drop them back at our office
- We cannot accept returns or refunds on gas canisters once purchased
